Cyclista Leggings

New Year at Cyclista

This December has been a little bit milder than most, ok so a lot milder than normal with temperatures in Cumbria hitting 15 degrees! However we have seen quite a bit more rain than normal, and to be honest during the down pours I have hit the Turbo trainer in the basement until it filled with over 2 foot of water. The rain has been just crazy with massive amounts of local flooding and regular road closures. One locally has led to an Army bridge being installed which I have yet to pluck up the courage to ride over as its pretty steep and metal, maybe I will do it on the mountain bike first.

As a result of the mild temperatures and some breaks in the rain, this week I decided to get out on the bike again, but my wardrobe choices are proving challenging. Amazingly I have managed to get it right two out of two rides this week, which if you knew me you would realise is a miracle in itself. I am always too hot or too cold, all the time!

I have been hitting the road in my Cyclista Womens cycle leggings, and I am so so happy with how they perform. They are a full length legging ideal for training, racing and sportive riding. Constructed from high performance fabric that offers perfect muscle compression, decreases muscle vibration and strain and helps improve performance. I have found the cycle leggings seem to keep me the right temperature, in 7 and 13 degrees I was totally comfortable and to my husbands delight not stopping every 10 minutes to add or remove layers, an actual miracle. I team mine up with Woolie Boolie socks and Blue Seventy toe covers as I suffer from severely numb feet in winter, but find that works for me. Hope everyone else is having fun out and about.

New Years Challenge

New Year Fun

Last January I embarked on a possibly terrible idea of a 100 days of exercise challenge. A friend had completed one the year before and  by day 100 was enjoying it so much she carried on. Great idea I thought, who needs rest days (apparently I do). I was working in retail at the time and due to the busy run up to Christmas got a little unfit, OK very unfit, tired and grumpy, and wanted to have a New Years resolution that was a bit different. My previous successes had been giving up chocolate for 3 days and going to the gym more which didn’t even get off the ground.

The rules are simple, everyday do at least 30 minutes of exercise, this really can be anything anywhere. For me it was mainly Cycling, Running, Core sessions, Swimming and when I got a cold it was fell walking. This did mean on the day of of a conference at work I woke my colleague up doing press ups on our hotel room floor at 6am, not only does this get you fit it also makes you popular!

The first few days felt great, by day 4 I was entirely convinced this was going to be easy, by day 10 I had realised that this was probably the most stupid thing I had ever done, but was already 10% of the way there so I couldn’t give up now. When day 30 came around it suddenly started to feel a lot easier, and normal. I tracked my activities on Twitter which gave me the extra motivation to continue, because people could see what I was up to! When I reached day 100 I was feeling great, fitter more motivated and happier. I also carried on after my 100 days has finished and ended up on day 114, and will definitely be giving it another go this year.

So if anyone plans on doing something a bit different this New Year whether its a 30, 50 or 100 day challenge or something else, make sure you let me know about it on Twitter @cyclistaemily or on Facebook. The links are at the bottom of the page.

Happy New Year!

(I should probably put in a bit of a disclaimer about check with your doctor before starting any new exercise regime)

Night Riding in December in Capris

I think this is the first time ever that I have managed to ride my bike outside in December and not be covered head to toe in some form of base layer or fleecy fabric, complete with a buff over my face and a hat under my helmet making me totally unrecognisable and end up boiling hot after the first hill. The temperature was a crazy 13 degrees so it was Cyclista Capri time (the Cycle Capris are £80 and available on the Cyclista website) We headed out for the Sedbergh Cycle Club Christmas Ride and Pint.

We rode out to Dent and up Cowgil and back down the other side of the Valley, which had a fair bit of gravel on the road following the recent Cumbrian flooding, so made it a little like cyclo-cross.  My light picked this as the perfect time to run out of battery so we had a convenient little rest whilst I swapped for the back up one.  Along the way we decided that the Dent cobbles need to be a Strava section so we can channel a bit of a Paris-Roubaix vibe and see how fast we can get over them, and that we were also creating a new sport which is a combination on Bike and Pint, the names that we were coming up with had us laughing so much we nearly rode into the hedge

We all agreed that there that riding as a group with some good lights is a pretty awesome was to spend Black Eye Friday, although it gets a bit confusing when our lights are so bright we keep think that there are cars behind us. I am sure this will be the first of many Sedbergh CC night rides of the winter

Nearly Christmas – Cyclista

So the Christmas cakes are made (although I forgot the self raising flour), the tree is up and decorated, and the presents are nearly all wrapped and I am feeling festive! Last weekend was also full of wrapping and packaging of a different variety, we received another delivery from the factory of top up stock so we packaged almost 50 pairs of Cycling Capris and about 30 pairs of Cycling Leggings, and I didn’t stab my self with the Kimble gun once, result!

For me its mainly been turbo training on the bike this month, but we have had a bit of a flooding issue in the basement so its almost like riding outside as I keep getting splashed with water as I am doing interval training. It all adds to the experience, and its been a great reason to keep wearing my fav pair Cyclista bib-shorts with the blue detailing. They match my winter bike best and although no-one sees me in the basement I still seem to get that pair out of the draw every time.

On Friday the graded patterns for our amazing winter bib leggings arrived at the factory, so that’s just a final sample left to make and then into production so they should be ready by early January. They really are something special, with a quick break system meaning that you don’t need to fully undress to get out of them. They are made from a fleece backed Lycra and have a built in sports bra, the detailing will match anything else in the Cyclista collection. The zips have arrived for the spring jerseys so they are 1 step closer to being complete too!

Hope you enjoyed reading our little update
